Sanmay, Mallika triumph; Anshuman bags double crown

PANJIM: Sanmay Paranjpe and Mallika Gogoi emerged champions in the men’s and ladies singles category while Anshuman Agarwal won a double crown, as the curtains came down on the State Table Tennis Championship organised by Goa Table Tennis Association in collaboration with the Sports Authority of Goa, at Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium, Taleigao Plateau, on Monday. 

Anshuman emerged winner in the Sub Junior and Junior Boys section. Aaron Farias and Leoma Fernandes reigned supreme in Cadet Boys and Girls events while Najida Sheikh clinched the Sub Junior Girls title. Prutha Parrikar triumphed in Junior Girls category. Meanwhile, Mini Cadet Girls and Boys Titles were won by Ruchi Kirtani and Rishan Shaikh. 

India International star paddler and Commonwealth Gold Champion Manika Batra was the chief guest and star attraction during the finals, where she inspired the youngsters by exhibiting her trade mark back hand strokes, flipping the racket from pimpled rubber to regular rubber during the rally, to the awe of the spectators. 

Following are the results of the finals: Mini cadet Girls Singles -- Ruchi Kirtani defeated Anvi Nadkarni 3-0 (11-6, 11-9, 14-12).

Mini Cadet Boys Singles: Rishan Shaikh beat Atharv Dhulapkar 3-0 (11-4, 11-4, 11-6).  Cadet Girls Singles: Leoma Fernandes outplayed Galya Fernandes 3-1 (13-11, 13-11, 14-16, 11-5).

Cadet Boys Singles: Aaron Farias out smarted Khushal Naik 3-0 (11-3, 11-9, 11-7).

Sub Junior Girls Singles: Najida Sheikh got the better of Aalya Arora 3-0 (11-7, 14-12, 11-9).

 Sub Junior Boys Singles: Anshuman Agarwal beat Shantesh Mapsekar 3-0 (12-10, 11-8, 11-7).

Junior Girls Singles: Prutha Parrikar defeated Sanisha Shetye 3-2 (3-11, 7-11, 12-10, 11-5, 11-6).

Junior Boys Singles: Anshuman Agarwal beat Shantesh Mapsekar 3-1 (11-6, 11-9, 9-11, 11-7).

Ladies Singles: Mallika Gogoi out played Prutha Parrikar 3-2 (13-11, 6-11, 11-9, 3-11, 11-6).

Men’s Singles: Sanmay Paranjpe out smarted Dheeraj Rai 4-0 (11-4, 11-6, 11-7, 11-4).
