MAPUSA: Sporting Clube de Goa scripted a comeback 3-2 win over Salgaocar Football club in the Goa Professional League match, at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Wednesday.

The match started with attack Brian Mascarenhas tested Salgaocar keeper Abijit Das with curling corner but keeper Das parried i t to safety but the ball once again at the feet of Brian who set up Mackroy Peixote in front of the goal but keeper Das brilliantly cleared his header over the crossbar. 

A few minutes later, Brian saw his powerful shot blocked by Sporting keeper at the cost of a corner. After some brilliant saves by Sporting keeper Das, Salgaocar opened their tally in the 38th minutes when Umesh Harijan’s shot was blocked by Sporting keeper but the ball rolled over to striker Devendra who made no mistake to slot the ball home making it 1-0 for the Vasco based club.

However, the Green Brigade could not manage to hold the lead for long as Sporting found the equaliser within ten minutes through Victorino. The striker smartly headed in from 10-yards, after receiving a perfect low cross from the substitute Quan Gomes. 

Sporting came out stronger in the second half and took the lead before the hour mark. An avoidable tackle by Salgaocar keeper Das on Victorino forced referee to give away the penalty kick to Sporting, where Cajetan made no mistake from the spot to put his side ahead. 

Sporting coach Mateus brought in Nigerian Abiola in the 61st minute making them stronger in attack and his first touch had almost made it 3-1 but Salgaocar keeper Das made a diving save to push the ball for a corner. 

Down by a goal, Salgaocar coach Norbert showed some urgency and brought on two strikers Clencio Pinto and Agnelo Colaco. Clencio put his side on  level in the 73rd minute with a smart goal after Sporting defenders failed to clear Mackroy’s long ball in the box. 

In the last few minutes of the match, Sporting wasted two more opportunities to take the lead as Nigerian Abiola failed to control his shot from inside the box, within few minutes Victorino managed to beat the offside trap but failed to cut past Salgaocar keeper Das.

However, Victorino made no mistake in the 85th as he once again headed in from close off Cajetan’s corner making it 3-2 and helped his side to collect all three points from the match.
