St Anthony SC Marna storm into semi-finals
MAPUSA: St Anthony's Sports Club, Marna-Siolim registered a fluent 3-0 win over host Saligao United 3-0 to storm into the semi-finals of the North Goa Yarri Cup inter-village football tournament organized by Saligao United, at Duler Stadium, Mapusa on Tuesday.
St Anthony's Sports Club held the upper hand in the opening session and had their share of chances and looked to score however their forwards ran out of ideas after reaching the rival danger zone.
On the other hand, Saligao United had few scoring chances but were unlucky with their finishing throughout the game.
Post resumption, St Anthony's Sports Club put a vast improved display and their forwards troubled the rival defence with well-orchestrated raids .Substitute Puspharaj found luck in front of the goal in the 41st minute when he picked up the ball from Sidnanath as the former sent an unbeatable effort past the rival goalkeeper to open the flood gates.
Spurred by that goal, St Anthony's Sports Club upped the ante and Siddanath doubled the lead when he punished the rival goalkeeper with a clinical finish.
At the other end, Saligao United were woeful and failed to function as a unit as they hardly tested the rival goalkeeper. In the 70th minute Dalesh fired the last nail into rival coffin.
