DULER: St Savio’s Sports Club scored a narrow 1-0 win over AA de Moira in the 2nd Division –play-off match played at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Wednesday.

Despite the score line, both the sides put up a brilliant display initiating several threatening raids however the strikers failed to score time and again.

St Savio keeper Selwyn D’Souza effected a fine save in the 25th minute of play to deny Jason Monteiro from breaking the deadlock.

Couple of minutes later it was Calangute who were at the attacking front where first Marc DCruz charged into the Moira territory and unleashed a powerful shot which missed the target by a whisker and then Mathew Colaco saw his shot from inside the Moira goal area hit defender Saddam’s legs and brushed the side post before rolling out of play.

Changing ends, the Calangute outfit shot into the lead in the 55th minute of play when Mathew Colaco sent the ball towards Ivo Fernandes whose powerful grounder had no answer from the rival keeper, 1-0.

Finding themselves a goal down Moira tried their level best to get back into the match, however Savio Fernandes saw his rasping right footer sailed just past the Calangute goal, then Sachidanand Satelkar’s effort banged the Calangute woodwork and bounced back into play.

Towards the fag end of the match Sachidanand seeing the keeper off his line tried to lob the ball into the empty goal, however his effort went just past the target.

At Poriat ground, Dempo Juniors got the better of Portais Sports Club by a 2-1 win.
