MERCES: Temba defeated Gaunchem Bhatt A 4-2 via the tie-breaker after a drab full-time, in the 4th Pogo Boys Cup, organised by Pogo Boys Merces, at Merces Church ground, on Wednesday.

Nevis of Gaunchem Bhatt registered the first shot of the match for his team. Temba’s Sherwin missed to get his name on the scoresheet after his free kick missed the goal by inches. Temba’s Sherwin tried his luck yet again from another free kick but this time his shot crashed into the Gaunchem Bhatt wall wherein Temba’s Francis nodded the ball goal wards but to his dismay it fell straight into the safe hands of Gaunchem Bhatt keeper Santan. 

Paulo Joao was like a rock in the Gaunchem Bhatt defense and made some important interceptions. 

Post resumption Gaunchem Bhatt’s Paulo had a go at goal from the centre line but missed it by a few centimetres. Gaunchem Bhatt’s Nevis later sent a fine cross to Venancio who headed the ball but Francis, Temba’s keeper did well to keep the ball out. 

Temba’s Kennad shot a fine right footer but Gaunchem Bhatt keeper Allan punched the ball off. Dominating Temba’s Sherwin took yet another free kick but Gaunchem Bhat did well to keep his shot out of the nets. 

Later, Gaunchem Bhatt made a wonderful attacking move with Santan who played a brilliant ball to Venancio who took an amazing right footed volley but Temba’s Goalie made a perfect save with a diving effort to keep the ball out. 

In the tie breaker Sherwyn, Ashton, Kennad and Francis scored for Temba while Daniel and Paulo were the scorers for Gaunchem Bhatt.
