UC Nerul win North Goa Yaari Premiere Cup

MARGAO: United Club of Nerul prevailed over St Anthony's Sports Club, Marna- Siolim 4-1 via the tie-breaker to win the North Goa Mc Dowell's No. 1 Yaari Premiere Cup inter-village football tournament organised by Anjuna Gymkhana, at Anjuna Gymkhana ground, on Saturday.

MARGAO: United Club of Nerul prevailed over St Anthony's Sports Club, Marna- Siolim 4-1 via the tie-breaker to win the North Goa Mc Dowell's No. 1 Yaari Premiere Cup inter-village football tournament organised by Anjuna Gymkhana, at Anjuna Gymkhana ground, on Saturday. 

Both the teams started the match on attacking note but United Club of Nerul had a golden chance to surge ahead but striker Yeshwant fumbled in front of the rival goal mouth in the early minutes of the match. 

After that minor hiccups , St Anthony's Sports Club's striker Joel was in the heart of the rival box, the former collected the ball from Pusparaj's well measured cross but failed to score. 

There after St Anthony's Sports Club, conjured three scoring opportunities but the rival goalkeeper Sidesh Morje comfortably collected Sahil’s shot, then came a timely brilliant save by rival goalkeeper following a splendid volley from Joel in the 9th minute. 

St Anthony's Sports Club were unlucky when striker Joel outwitted couple of defenders but last man Anthony thwarted him from scoring.

United Club of Nerul slowly struck the rhythm and called the shots against the rival citadel. Sanket Jotkar who deceived rival defenders with speed failed to beat the rival goalkeeper in a one-on-one situation.

United Club of Nerul were unlucky when Sanket's shot deflected from rival defender and went out for an abortive flag kick. Later Russel 's header missed the target narrowly from flag kick taken by Jackson. 

St Anthony's Sports Club, Marna- Siolim continued in the same fashion as United Club of Nerul were forced to resort to desperate defending. 

In the 55th minute Aldrich floater saw Videsh Chari inside the rival penalty but the latter fumbled. With the time running out, United Club of Nerul had upped the ante and nearly found the match winner but Jackson's volley was well saved by Siolim goalkeeper. 

In the resultant tie-breaker Lincoln, Anthony, Russel and Bhavesh were on target for UC Nerul while Claudio was lone scorer for St Anthony Marna. 

WRD Minister and Fisheries Minister Vinod Palyekar was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of guest of honour Suraj Shrivastava, Deputy General Manager Diageo, Marketing Manager Kshitiji Shetye, team leader North Rajnish Mishra.
