MAPUSA: Vasco Veterans had to wait until the sudden death before squeezing past Fatorda Veterans by a 8-7 win to lay their hands on the 7th Panjim Veterans trophy, at Duler Stadium, here on Sunday.

At half-time, Vasco led by 2-0 with Augustine Mesquita scoring in both the goals.

Vasco could have opened their scoring in the 15th minute itself, however Fatorda keeper Camilo came up with a splendid save to pair away Uday Naik’s goal bound effort.

After some missed opportunities, Augustine put Vasco in the lead in the 25th minute when he tapped in Joaquim’s pass.

Just five minutes later, Augustine netted in his brace on being set up by  Salvador to make it 2-0. 

Changing ends Fatorda took the field with full aggression and reduced the margin in the 42nd minute through Agnelo Gomes while Agnelo Colaco got in the equaliser in the 55th minute. 

In the penalty shootout to decide the winner, Shaikh Aboo, Uday Naik, Ramesh Palkar, Anant, Derrick Pereira and Santan Colaco were on target for Vasco Veterans while Remy Barretto, Agnelo Colaco, Agnelo Gomes, Manu, Agnelo Araujo scored for Fatorda.

Earlier, Panjim Veterans club officials introduced the chief guest Tony Dias- ex-Deputy Commissioner of Customs & Central Excise, guest of honour- Francis Noronha, President of Clube Vasco da Gama, George Da Costa-Sr. Vice President of HDFC Bank and other invitees to the players and match officials.
