MUMBAI, APRIL 7
Mahindra United and their city rivals Mumbai FC played a goalless draw in a round 20th clash of ONGC I-League at Cooperage here on Wednesday.
Mahindra failed to go four points clear from the second placed Dempo and now have 37 points from 20 matches, while Dempo are just two behind the jeepmen and find themselves with 35 points with a game in hand.
The result gives Dempo an opportunity to go top of the I-League if they win their corresponding fixture of the round.
As far as the result of the match was concerned it was the lower lying Mumbai FC who did a good job by stopping Mahindra from scoring. The first half of the match though was dominated by the jeepmen as they got better chances.
Muritala Ali came close to open the account in the 33rd minute but it was a clever save by Mumbai F C custodian Amit Singha Roy. Just one minute to go before the half time Paresh Shivalkar attempted a header off Steven Dias corner but it was way off the target.
After the start of the second half in the 54th minute Mahindra’s in-form striker Mohammed Rafi got a chance to give his team the lead but he fumbled.
In the 66th minute, Mumbai’s Darren Caldeira header hit the bar and bounced over Mahindra goalkeeper Subhashish Roy Chowdhury.
Mumbai FC’s Subhas Chakraborty was named man-of-the match.
