PANJIM, APRIL 4
Dr Shekar Salkar today alleged that there was a case of cheating as a Goan player had played thrice for the State Under-15 cricket team in BCCI domestic age-group tournaments, whereas one is entitled to don colours only twice.
Dr Salkar told Herald after the news was telecast by Prudent Media on Sunday that one Ganeshraj had played for the State under-15 team in 2005-06 and 2006-07 seasons and as such had exhausted the quota. However, Dr Salkar alleged that the player in question was also fielded in 2007-08, but under the name of one Anish N.
Dayanand Narvekar, MLA and president of GCA told Prudent Media that the mistake was noticed by GCA itself and blamed the manager who had accompanied the team for the same then. The list was prepared manually and not computerised, Narvekar explained and added the query was answered during the time when Chetan was the secretary and GCA was fined and the error condoned by BCCI. It is learnt that it was the contention that Ganeshraj was listed as the 12th man and as such not fielded.
Dr Salkar confirmed that the GCA was fined Rs 5000  and allegedly it was an attempt to forgery. “I intend to file an FIR with the Panjim Police Station,” Dr Salkar stated and termed it a case of cheating. “It is a criminal violation of the law,” Dr Salkar alleged and as such the GCA president should step down,” he added and pointed out that a genuine player was thus deprived from participating in the State team.
Dr Salkar also criticised the way the amendments were carried out today at Porvorim, stating that even the BCII is for two terms only and that only in exceptional cases one more term is given to the president.
