The All-India volleyball tournament organised by Wilred Leisure Sports Club in association with Sports Authority of Goa, Volleyball Federation of India and Goa Volleyball Association, will get underway at St Alex church court, Curtorim on April 10.
The winners and runners-up will receive Rs 50,000 and Rs 30,000 respectively in the men’s section while in the women’s, the winners and runners-up will be richer by Rs 25,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively.
ONGC, Dehradun, Cochin Port Trust, Kerala State Electricity Board, MEG, Bangalore, South Central Railway, Secunderabad, ICF, Chennai, SDAT, Tamil Nadu and Goa XI will participate.
Reginaldo Lourenco, MLA and patron-in-chief of the organising committee said: ”The response for last year’s edition has been very good and this year we obtained maximum response from a number of teams. Wilred Leisure has done a commendable job contributing both to social responsibilities and promotion of sports in Curtorim.”
Lourenco disclosed that seating arrangements has been increased to 3000 with special emphasis on providing an excellent centre court.
Dionisio Sardinha, secretary, Wilred Leisure added: “Wilred Leisure’s ambition is to promote sports. We want to motivate youngsters to take to volleyball and contribute to the development of the game in Goa. This year we have added the women’s tournament which will be held at 7.30 p.m.”
“To add glamour, there will be a live band, fire works and attractive prizes for fans apart from a daily housie,” added Dionisio.
Meanwhile, the daily tickets will be priced at Rs 50 while season passes are available at Rs 300.
