One More Suicide Case at BITS Pilani Goa, that's right, a student at BITS Pilani's Goa campus was found hanging in his hostel room on Thursday, according to police reports. Authorities suspect it to be a clear case of suicide. This marks the third incident at the institution’s Goa campus in just five months, raising serious concerns about student well-being and campus management.
The student, originally from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, was discovered at 10:15 a.m. in his hostel room, as confirmed by an official from the Verna Police Department on Friday.
As the investigation is ongoing, all eyes are on how the situation unfolds. What has recently come to light is a heartfelt and urgent statement from the family of Krishna Kasera, the student in question. His mother, Manisha Kasera, has publicly accused the campus administration of negligence and of taking the matter lightly.
Speaking to the media, Manisha recounted her last interaction with her son: “Krishna was not feeling well, and I suggested he take some medicine via WhatsApp. But he didn’t reply. When I didn’t receive any update, I asked my daughter, Krishna’s sister — to try calling him. She then contacted the warden, who informed us of Krishna’s suicide.”
Not only Krishna’s mother, but his uncle, Mr. Manish Poddar, also spoke out about the case and clearly blamed the BITS Pilani management. He pointed out that in the past three months alone, three similar suicide cases have occurred, all following a similar pattern, and all taking place just before exams.
Mr. Poddar also criticized the lack of CCTV cameras in the hostel, calling it a sign of carelessness and negligence by the management.
Speaking about Krishna, he said that Krishna was experiencing mental stress around April 26 and had reached out to the college’s counseling system. Unfortunately, he did not receive adequate support, and ultimately took the drastic step.
Blaming the system, Mr. Poddar added that the counselling team neither contacted the parents nor took any meaningful action to help Krishna.
Aman Poddar, another uncle of Krishna, also spoke out about the lack of basic facilities provided to students by the college. He pointed out that despite the high fees paid by students, the hostels lacked essentials like proper fans and water coolers, reflecting poorly on the college’s infrastructure and priorities.
Like Manish Poddar, Aman also mentioned the pattern of suicides over the last three months, emphasizing that each case was linked to extreme mental pressure faced by the students.
He added that the college was taking large amounts of money from students for things like internship charges and other fees, but students were not getting anything useful in return. He also stated that the college continues to charge students heavily despite failing to provide basic support or meaningful opportunities.
