Goan designer focuses on rose, thorns at Kochi

After her acclaimed and successful Dubai bride show, internationally acclaimed Goa-based fashion designer Verma D’Mello presented her Perpetual Essence collection at the Kochi International Fashion Week, making efforts to touch lives of women in the country.

“I was
wondering why the thorns of life had to accompany life’s beauty,” says Verma,
while speaking to Herald regarding her theme on a rose’s rarest essence, which
lives in its thorns.

Explaining
further, the designer who is among the few in the country to touch a cord with
suffering of women in the country, stated: “The relationship of a rose and a
thorn, traversing a line between sweetness, beauty, and love, and the pangs of
hardship and unexpected loss and pain always seem to counterbalance the
fragrance of the rose.”

Verma’s
fashion collection was widely appreciated and acknowledged at the fashion week.
“Fashion is not simply a change of styles of dress and adornment, but rather a
systematic, structured and deliberate pattern of style change,” she said.

This was
the first time Verma played with this theme and states the relationship of a
rose and thorns is juxtaposed.

“A rose
depicted as a symbol of love, beauty and happiness which is the essence in a
woman’s life is basically accompanied with injustice, pain and struggle which
depict thorns and is everlasting and perpetual,” she said.

“To
acquire a rose, we have to walk the path of the thorns that are a part of the
growth of the rose. Similarly, to achieve the joy and gladness of her life, a
woman has to witness pain and sacrifice which is a reality. She loses herself
but gains the essence which is worthy of all the loss.”

“The
hardships are like the piercings of the thorns perpetually imbibed but the
closure/conclusion is the blooming happiness of the roses which brings
fragrance to her life.”
