GDP stands for Gross Domestic Product which in turn means “Value of goods produced and services provided in a country during one year”. The intricacies of the term GDP is well understood only by a certain section of society called the economists. An economist is a professional in economics who can define the lifeline of the health of the economy of the country. For the ordinary people it is a science which deals with demand and supply.
The Chief Minister made the statement of the GDP of the year 2012-13 of Rs 36000 crores due to the mining slump in comparison with the projected GDP for the year 2017-18 as Rs 70000 crores plus.
To call a spade a spade is well deserved for our CM as he has been a good administrator after having served as CM of the state, drew the attention of the PM Modi on account of his calibre and also served as a Defence Minister of India before returning to rule the state of Goa again.
To call a spade a spade again the present government does not have a mandate of the people and is cobbled of different political smaller parties and is a coalition government. However the credit goes to the CM for holding firm all the constituents and delivering a good governance.
Since it is a Gross Domestic Product everyone is involved into building it, right from a cultivator or a labourer up to a teacher, or a lawyer, doctor, engineer, technocrat or a scientist. It is a team work of all these categories that contribute for the growth of GDP. Hence taking any decisions that will affect the growth either upward or downward swing should be taken cautiously. The downward swing of the GDP can affect the material prosperity of the nation and it is the working class and poorest sections who are affected the most.
As we are likely to have a surplus GDP it would have been proper and sensible on the part of the state government to pass on the benefits of the surplus GDP to the consumers especially in regard to lowering the tariffs of utilities like electricity and water which is afflicting the common man in day to day life or in any other measure that reflects the Constitution “benefits should reach to the poorest sections of the society”.
