PANJIM: Activist Swapnesh Sherlekar has appealed to Goans to challenge mega projects in their respective villages particularly those allowed by changing the zones under Section 17(2) of the Town and Country Planning (TCP) Act.

Referring to the affidavit filed by the former Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel in the High Court of Bombay at Goa regarding a property purchased by him at Aldona and published by O Heraldo, Sherlekar has pointed out the disparity between the property prices in the State and other parts across the country.
Sherlekar pointed out, “Goel sold his flat at Gurgaon for Rs 3.10 crore and bought land admeasuring 1,875 square metres at Aldona for Rs 2.60 crore, as he had plans to settle down in Goa after his retirement from government service. Goans who are selling their property should think over it.”
He further said that such trends raise concerns about why non-Goans were increasingly keen on settling in Goa. He said that two citizens Direndra Phadte of Ecoxim, Bardez and Jose Maria Miranda of Borda-Margao, have filed a public interest litigation (PIL) writ petition before the High Court challenging the land acquired by the Chief Secretary at Aldona after converting it into settlement.
