CUNCOLIM: SC Davorlim defeated Parish Youth Nuvem 6-4 via the tie-breaker to move into the quarter-finals of the Mc Dowells’ No 1 Yaari Premier Cup inter-village football tournament for South Goa, organised by Cuncolim Union at Government Village School ground, Cuncolim, onThursday.
SC Davorlim were under pressure from the start as Navelim striker Jerose Olivera was live-wire in the rival territory but the striker missed glorious opportunities to give his side a well deserved lead. He first short wide from close range before seeing his effort being pushed to safety by the rival keeper.
Jerose continued his approach upfront and made the task of Davorlim defenders tough.
Gammy Costa of Parish Youth Nuvem had the best chance to score but Bonny Niasso and Andrew Colaco of Davorlim foiled the latter’s move in the 45th minute.
Gammy Costa netted for Parish Youth Nuvem in the 47th minute with a placement shot. However, the joy was shortlived as SC Davorlim equalised through Selwin Miranda in the 54th minute. The teams were tied 1-1 at the lemon break.
In the resultant tie-breaker, SC Davorlim netted through Vellington Rocha, Selwyn Miranda, Bonny Niasso, Johnson Figuerido and Perryson Rebello and for Parish Youth Nuvem Inacio Colaco, Clysbon Pereira and Joel Colaco scored.

ANJUNA: Goa Velha SC got better of Nerul SC 6-5 via tie breaker in the Mc Dowells’ No 1 Yaari Cup, North Goa, organised by Anjuna Gymkhana and played at Anjuna Gymkhana.
It was goalless till the final whistle.
In the early minutes of the first half, Nikesh Mangeskar came close in scoring, but his efforts hit the side nettings.
Nerul’s Janifar Clemente and Aniket Agarwadekar got one chance each, but
Goa Velha keeper Agnelo Silva made some brilliant saves to deny the opponents from scoring,
The best chance in the first half came for Goa Velha was in 25th minute when Arun Naik dribbled past couple of defender but couldn’t manage to finish with a weak shot.
At the end of first half, Nerul SC again failed to convert Aniket’s cross. Nerul got a free-kick 25 yards away from goal, but Paul Cardozo’s kick was saved by keeper.
Changing over, Goa Velha changed their strategies and started more of attacking by using flanks.
In the 40th minute, Yogendra Tappa’s shot sailed over the crossbar. Few moments later
Francis Fernandes managed to shoot, but opponent’s keeper saved it.
In the tie-breaker, Sairaj, Francis, Yogendra, Nikesh, Joseph, Agnelo were on target for Goa Velha and for Nerul Aniket, Paul, Akash, Deepraj and Sainath converted.
