PERNEM: Faculty of Sant Soyrobanath Ambiye College of Arts and Commerce, Virnoda-Pernem, on Saturday raised their voice against the State government’s decision to use the college premises as a swab collection centre for the people coming from across the border.

The college has written a letter to the Directorate of Higher Education requesting the authorities to shift the swab collection centre to the Community Health Centre, Tuem or any other location in the taluka or else to permit the staff to work online from home.
The college principal claimed that the unrestricted movement of these people into the college premises have caused stress and anxiety among the staff for getting exposed to the COVID infection.
The principal informed that the college had received a letter from the Collector North stating that the principal of the college shall place the possession of the college to the Deputy Collector and Sub-Divisional Magistrate Pernem Taluka with immediate effect till further order. However, the possession and the purpose were not specified in the context of COVID management.
The college staff had expressed their anxiety and difficultly in working in such situation where their safety will be at risk as well as of the students and their respective families because if only the multipurpose hall is specifically requisitioned there are high chances that these people will move around the college to use the toilet, canteen and parking facilities.
