SATTARI: Surla, a remote and sleepy hamlet in Sattari taluka has achieved a near cent per cent first dose inoculation of its adult population against the deadly coronavirus.
It appears that the vaccine advocacy, faith-building, and community mobilisation helped in achieving the near 100 per cent vaccination of hamlet’s adult population.

According to panch Suryakant Gawas, “Almost each eligible villager has received the jab and a very few of them, who are out of the village due to work, are left. We have almost managed to cover the entire population of the village. However, a few villagers who work in the towns could not receive the jab. Even these people will receive their first vaccine dose. During the first Tika Utsav in April, our villagers received the first dose in our panchayat, while the rest took it today. I am very happy and thankful to the State Government especially Health Minister Vishwajit Rane and Community Health Centre Valpoi for their efforts in vaccinating our villagers.”
Valpoi CHC in-charge Dr Shyam Kankonkar said, “Our team visited the houses of locals who were not able to come to the session and vaccinated them. Non-availability of the internet in the village was another hurdle as it was not possible to register villagers on the CoWIN portal for vaccination. The session carried out here was via offline mode. Before the first Tika Utsav, we vaccinated several villagers. Today, we inoculated 218 locals.”
“A sustained awareness campaign by health workers accompanied by panch Suryakant Gawas ensured the hamlet to achieve its target,” he said.
The team members of the vaccination drive in Surla include Dr Shyam Kankonkar, Dr Videsh Jalmi, Dr Abhijit Wadkar, Aqueeb Shaikh, Sulba Sawant, Kavita Gawas, Viraj Sawant, Kaskar, Pratiksha Samant, Siya Mauskar, Reema Chawdikar, Bhakti Gawas, Alisha Bhat, Sangeeta Gawas, Asmita Gaonkar, Poornima Gaonkar, Nirmala Gawas, Priyanka Gaonkar, Deepa Gaude, Sarita Kalle, Sanjana Gawas, Alzira, Yashwant Gaonkar, Namdev Gawas and Fondu Paryekar.
