MARGAO: The Cavelossim panchayat’s plan to reconstruct its dilapidated ghar has hit a roadblock as there are no takers for the tender for the second time. The first call was given in December. The panchayat has to continue operating in a dilapidated building that is around 30 years old and lacks space.
It may be recalled that the work of demolishing and reconstructing the panchayat ghar was to be undertaken at a cost of Rs 2 crore from the golden jubilee funds of 2013. This decision was taken at a gram sabha.
Earlier, the panchayat had moved a proposal to reconstruct the ghar and the same had received a technical sanction from the TCP, but was later dropped in favour of the gram sabha resolution.
Panchas have conveyed to the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) that they believe the work is getting delayed due to low rates, which they feel need to be revised.
Addressing the press, panch Laju Miranda claimed that increase in cost of raw material and labour and the low rates proposed by GSIDC is possibly the reason why there hasn’t been any taker for the tender. He added that the works will be tendered again and that the proposal would also include construction of a community hall.
