PANJIM: The Goa Human Rights Commission (GHRC) disposed of a complaint filed by a Mormugao councillor regarding kiosks in port town.

Mormugao councillor Nilesh Navelkar had filed a complaint dated August 5 last year against the inaction of the chief officer to remove illegal handcarts/gaddas stationed and given shelter in Vasco, near Dev Damodar Trust compound wall.
Following a complaint, the Commission sought report/reply from the chief officer, who stated that the Mormugao Municipal Council had already started the process of removal of encroachments on municipal footpaths, roads and road widening area spaces and they will take action and also submit action taken report. On January 21 this year the chief officer further submitted that the municipality had dismantled the illegal handcarts/gaddas situated near Dev Damodar Trust compound wall, on the parking lot on roads and footpaths in Vasco.
Based on the complaint and the reply by the respondent, the three-member Commission comprising Chairman Justice U V Bakre and Members Judge Desmond D’Costa and Judge Pramod Kamat found that the chief officer had taken action in accordance with law and that there have been no human rights violations of the complainant. Accordingly, the complaint was disposed of.
