CALANGUTE: Hosts Candolim Veterans prevailed over Aldona Veterans 4-3 via the tie-breaker after being held to a goalless draw at full time in Dr. Gustavo Monteiro Memorial Veterans Football tournament at Dr. Gustavo Monteiro Stadium, Candolim, Wednesday.
Candolim began the match on a positive note and came close to scoring on a couple of occasions but their forwards failed to find the mark.
Aldona did not lag behind and could have upset the hosts but luck was not on their side. With both teams failing to score, the winners were decided on penalties. Candolim got better of Aldona 4-3. Shekar Palienkar, Celestine Fernandes, Fr. Victor Rodrigues and Elvis Pereira found the net for the winners while Caetano Cardozo, Henry Fernandes and Alex Dias were on target for the losers. Ankush Kalangutkar was declared man-of-the-match.
