PES, Fr Agnel spikers triumph

PANJIM: PES, Farmagudi and Fr Agnel Pilar emerged champions in men and women sections respectively at Goa University inter-college volleyball championship at Massano de Amorim court, here, Thursday.

PES beat Fr. Agnel College 25-23, 25-16, 25-15 in straight with D’Silva (son of coach Avelino) almost single-handedly earning points with hard smashes, which brooked no opposition. That apart, PES had a strong backing from their students who displayed strong, fantastic lung power.

In women’s Fr. Agnel beat Rosary Navelim 23-25, 25-16, 25-11, 25-17. Fr Agnel did well in warding off the challenge of St Xavier’s and Carmel earlier.

Fr. Fredrick Rodrigues, principal, Fr. Agnel College was the chief guest and gave away the prizes.  Prof. A. S. Dinge, principal of PES College was the guest of honour and also handed over them medals. Milton L Fernandes, head of Sports Department, Goa University,  proposed the vote thanks.

Meanwhile, in West Zone inter-university table tennis, Goa University men and women teams lost in Nagpur. The men’s team lost to SRTM University, Nagpur 1-3.

In women’s Goa lost to Jai Narayan Vyas University, Jodhpur 3-2. Alisha won both matches whereas Alexandra and Snigdha lost theirs.
