‘Green Nagoa’ takes off

MARGAO: The village panchayat of Nagoa launched an initiative to boost cultivation under the project ‘Green Nagoa’ on Wednesday.

“Today we see lot of agricultural land being kept uncultivated due to lack of manpower so in order to solve this problem, the village panchayat of Nagoa had  taken the initiative under the project called ‘Green Nagoa’ where the panchayat is planning to cultivate the land and also help the villagers who are cultivating it,” said panch member Anzil Godindho.
“As a first step towards the project, the Nagoa panchayat has purchased a tractor under agricultural scheme and today sarpanch Franky Vales inaugurated the ploughing work,”  added Godinho.
It is to be noted that all the details of Green Nagoa are available on the panchayat’s website launched recently. The project aims at bringing barren land in Nagoa under cultivation. As part of the project, the panchayat plans to go ahead with another proposal where seeds would be given to farmers from Nagoa and ration would be distributed at discounted rates to Nagoa residents. Godinho said that the panchayat had two wells and no construction would be allowed near the well and it would be used to save water.
Godinho said that details on the cost per completed project had been uploaded on the website as well as details about future projects. He said that there was also an option for locals to email their suggestions and send in their queries.
