MAPUSA: FC Goa kept their composure to overcome a stiff challenge from Dempo Sports Club to register a 2-1 win in the Goa Professional league, at Duler stadium, here on Tuesday.
It was a well-deserved win for FC Goa who got their goals from Vasim Inamdar and Lalremruata HP while Darrell Mascarenhas was on the scoresheet for the Golden Eagles.
FC Goa tasted success two minutes before the half-time whistle when defender Malsawmtluanga released the ball to Vasim Inamdar who showed great body strength to keep out the challenges from the Dempo defenders and let got a firm left footer which had not answer from keeper Melroy Fernandes to give his side the lead.
FC Goa got their second goal in 63rd minute from a sloppy defensive work by Shallum Pires who instead of clearing the ball to safety tried to shield it for a goal kick but was out marshalled by U-20 Vasim Inamdar who squared the ball to an open Lalremruata HP who placed the ball past keeper Melroy to make it 2-0.
Dempo managed to pull a goal back in the 68th minute through an absolute beauty from left back Darell Mascarenhas who on cutting inside the box from the left flank curled the ball into the top corner of the net leaving the keeper rooted to his spot to make it 2-1.
