Honour the Father of Opinion Poll

The Orlim panchayat took a good decision during their recently held Gram Sabha meeting. It has made a fervent request to honour Jack de Sequeira, properly known as the father of Opinion poll in Goa.

A genuine Goan will not easily forget the important contributions made by Jack De Sequeira in 1967. Often his contributions are side-lined by some Government officials. The impact of the opinion poll is visible even today.
Jack De Sequeira has played a major role in safeguarding Goa’s unique identity through opinion poll then. Konkani language was protected.  It was due to the opinion poll that today Goa is one of the states in India otherwise it would have been one of the districts of Maharashtra. Ironically, those who were suggesting to make Goa as one of the districts of Maharashtra and Marathi as the language of Goa are being profusely honoured in Goa.
Therefore as suggested by the Orlim Panchayat, installation of statue of Jack De Sequeira in the  State Assembly Complex will not only give him due honour but also remind all the MLAs and others to work ardently for the welfare of Goa.
