MARGAO: Claiming that the Comba area of the city will receive 24×7 water supply from Friday, the Margao unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party has said that Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has promised to set in motion the development of the Commercial capital within the next six months.
“Due to the initiative of the BJP city unit and cooperation from our government, Comba area, which was being supplied water via the old Portuguese water lines, will receive 24×7 water supply from today,” informed BJP Margao Mandal President Chandan Nayak and local leader Sharmad Raiturcar.
The duo slammed the Margao MLA for doing nothing to augment or improve the water supply to the city during his 20-year stint as legislator, saying that people of Comba will received the uninterrupted water supply from today due to the initiative of the BJP mandal.
Both Chandan and Sharmad said the party has already taken up with the chief minister the perennial problems plaguing the commercial capital, adding that Parrikar has promised to devote attention to Margao within the next six months. “Margao’s infrastructure has not changed for many years. Sonsodo remains as it is. The ring road project is half completed. There’s congestion at the Colva circle-KTC bus stand. Traffic problem has not been addressed till date. Margao has no modern bus stand. We have taken up all these problems with the chief minister, who has promised to take up these issues one by one,” Sharmad said, adding that the chief minister has promised to put an action plan in place on the line of the GSIDC’s plan for Panjim city.
Chandan said though Margao’s infrastructure has not kept pace with the development, the authorities have not stopped issuing constructions licences to new high rise buildings, especially in the Aquem area of the city. “While buildings have come up everywhere, the city roads have remained the same, while the city is still not covered with the sewerage network,” he said, adding that Margao is still not free of the garbage problem.
