Whenever there is a demand for banning the Sanatan Sanstha the argument put forward is that you cannot ban an entire organization if a couple of misguided individuals are found involved in some clandestine activities!
Now if we accept this argument then we just cannot blame Pakistan for the likes of Kasab and others as they are just misguided elements sometimes referred to as non-State actors! Now there cannot be two sets of rules one for International terror and another for the home grown variety. We cannot have “cultural purification’ by the fringe elements in a secular democracy.
Embolden by the majority of the BJP in Parliament the saffron brigade is using organizations for attacking, assaulting and even killing scholars whose ideas goes against their belief. Government on its part is destroying the basic character of academic institution by appointing mediocre people to head them whose only qualification is their closeness to the right wing groups. We get carried away by fake images and rhetoric of a glorious past and a powerful future as our rights are being robbed off and our private spaces are occupied by the cultural police. We are adults; we know what is good for us and what is bad for us.
We need a government that lays roads, bridges, constructs ports, that connects millions to an electricity grid. We need a state that looks out for the welfare of its people over the welfare of the party it represents. We need a government that takes us and keeps us on a path of 8%+ growth for decades from now. We don’t need a state that imposes its own (and maybe a few cabinet minister’s) narrow and parochial view of culture upon millions. Right wing’s ideas of nation building is through kitchen building! For BJP governments to impose meat bans is totally at odds with the mandate of 2014 given for a forward looking India, not for an imaginary Vedic Utopia. Good governance is not food governance.
By the time this government has run its course the BJP would have damage Indian social polity irreparably and high jacked academic discourse to a level of abysmal ignorance. History will remember this government as one that led India to the dark age. With Modi at the helm India has become a benighted nation.
