PANJIM: Kedar Tari, Jai Gill and Sreenath Srinivasan registered wins in the Men’s Singles category in the debut edition of Bandodkar Panjim Gymkhana Open 2024, a State ranking tournament dedicated to memory of Goa’s first chief minister, Dayanand Bandodkar, at the Panjim Gymkhana court, Campal, here, on Monday.
Kedar beat Rajesh Bundela 6-3, Jai defeated Krishna Volvoikar 7-5 in an evenly contested match and Sreenath vanquished Jason Pereira 6-0.
In U-14 girls event, Sofia Sanchez defeated Devyani Desai 7-5, Naimah Sharma routed Renee de Menezes 6-0 and Saanj Kunde defeated Neeraja Damle 6-2.
Earlier, the tournament was inaugurated by chief guest and former India tennis player Natasha Palha Soares in the presence of Vice-President Panjim Gymkhana Gaurish Dhond, Honorary Secretary Rajesh Khaunte, Clube Gasper Dias Secretary Tanmay Kholkar, Goa State Tennis Association Vice-President Sameer Kakodkar and members of the Panjim Gymkhana’s Managing Committee.
“I’ve witnessed a significant increase in the number of tennis players (in recent times), which is delightful. I believe it’s time to organise more State ranking tournaments to foster competitive spirit,” Natasha Palha Soares said.
