PANJIM: The power tariff in the State is likely to be hiked from April this year as the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC) will hold a public hearing on February 15, over several petitions filed by the Electricity Department including the proposal for tariff hike for the financial year 2023-2024.
If the new tariffs are approved by the JERC, then it would be the third hike within a year. The last revision in tariff was effected in April and June last year.

The State government has filed petitions before the JERC for approval of annual performance review of the fiscal year 2022-2023, aggregate revenue requirement for the 2023-2024 and tariff proposal for the financial year 2023-2024.
The public hearing is scheduled at the Mini Conference Hall of Institute Menezes Braganza, Panjim at 11.30 am. The Electricity Department has proposed a hike of six per cent on an average in power tariff for the financial year 2023-2024 and the proposal is approved by the JERC, the new tariff will come into force from April this year.
Currently the power tariff for domestic low tension consumer is Rs 1.60 per kWh for 0-100 units consumed. If revised, it will be hiked to Rs 1.69/kWh. Similarly, tariff for other category of consumers will also be increased accordingly.
