Navelim SC, Davorlim SC in last four

BENAULIM: Navelim SC defeated United Club of Nerul 4-2 via the tie-breaker to enter the semi-finals of 40th Cana-Benaulim Panchayat Cup 2016 organized by Cana-Benaulim Sporting Association, at St John Baptist ground, Dando-Benaulim, on Saturday.

BENAULIM: Navelim SC defeated United Club of Nerul 4-2 via the tie-breaker to enter the semi-finals of 40th Cana-Benaulim Panchayat Cup 2016 organized by Cana-Benaulim Sporting Association, at St John Baptist ground, Dando-Benaulim, on Saturday.
At half time, both the teams failed to open an account.
Aldrich Coelho and Anil Shivolkar combined well for Navelim SC while duo Sigmund Silveira and Dwayne Britto showed some good skills for United Club of Nerul.
Sigmund of United Club of Nerul in the very third minute made an attempt at the rival goal but his shot hit the cross piece of Navelim SC.
Navelim SC had a chance too but Aldrich’s move was foiled by the rival defender in the goal area. In the 15th minute, Dwayne’s second try also failed as his grounder strike hit the goal post and rebound back into play.
Suraj Kawtekar of UC Nerul’s long ranger was collected well by Navelim SC goalkeeper Cleton Gomes in the 23rd minute.
After the lemon break, in the 48th minute, UC Nerul through Dwayne connected to Sigmund inside the box of Navelim SC but goalkeeper Cleton was equal to the task.
Sandy Colaco of Navelim SC supplied a well measured pass to Aldrich but his rasping drive hit the UC Nerul goalpost in the 57th minute.
Julias D’Costa of Nerul SC’s free kick should have earned a dividend in the 58th minute but the goalkeeper Cleton rose high to fist away the ball to safety.
Again in the 59th minute, Rajat Chopedkar came up with a well fashioned move but his try too was fisted away by Navelim goalkeeper to safety.
The score remained goalless at the end of regulation time.
In the resultant tie-breaker, Navelim SC netted through Anil Shivolkar, Sandy Colaco, Avlon Gomes and Shelton Fernandes while UC Nerul were on target with the efforts of Anthony Fernandes and Benid Souza.
On Friday, Davorlim SC scored a solitary goal win over Sao Jose de Areal to book the semi-final berth.
Goalkeepers Luis Dias of Sao Jose de Areal and Rension Rodrigues of Davorlim SC remained busy with their smart saves to keep the score sheet clean in the first half.
In the second half, the all-important goal was scored by Maclon Colaco off a supply from Perryson Rebello in the 60th minute.
