MARGAO: A fine hat trick by Arnold Oliveira ensured Holy Spirit Institute, Margao a 7-0 win over Loyola High School, Margao in the Boys U-14 Subroto Cup inter-school football tournament to clinch the Salcete Taluka title.
The tournament was organised by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs (DSYA) and held at the artificial turf ground, Fatorda on Tuesday.
The defending State champions began the play on an impressive note as they dictated pace from the middle and soon broke the deadlock in the 10th minute as Anish Gadar scored off an assist by Nathan Rodrigues.
The Holy Spirit lads moved the ball from end to end and displayed great composure keeping possession of the ball for long spells. Seven minutes later Arnold Oliveira scored off an assist by Anish.
Holy Spirit continued their dominance and in the 21st minute, Oscar Braganza scored off an assist by Nathan, 3-0.
Few minutes later Nathan dribbled home the ball and for the next few minutes they chose to play possession football and strung together without allowing their opponents to get hold of the ball.
Crossing over, Loyola High School found it hard to get into the rhythm of Holy Spirit who enjoyed the lion’s share of ball possession.
In the 36th minute Arnold scored off a solo effort after skillfully dribbling past the defenders, 5-0.
Two minutes later Oscar added his name to the score sheet for the second time in the day. In the 40th min Arnold completed his hat-trick of an assist by Oscar, 7-0.
