MMC invites objections to CDP

The Margao Municipal Council on Saturday issued a notice inviting suggestions and objections from the public to Goa Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC)’s City Development Plan (CDP) for the commercial capital.
Margao Municipal Council Chairperson Savio Coutinho said the CDP will be displayed for public viewing in the civic body for a period of 15 days to facilitate the citizens to lodge their objections and suggestions.
Coutinho said the 15-day period to file objections and suggestions expires on July 19 and made an appeal to the citizens to go through the CDP and offer their valuable suggestions to the plan.
When it was pointed out that 15 days is too short a time for the people to study the plan and offer suggestions, Coutinho said the civic body has fixed 15 days as the deadline for suggestions and objections as per the Council resolution.
Meanwhile, it is not known how the civic body would display the plan for public viewing when the CDP comprises of a bulky document, which cannot be studied in a single day or two.
When asked to throw light on this issue, the MMC chairperson admitted that there was no plan in the strict sense of the term for public viewing and added that citizens will have to study the bulky document before offering suggestions and objections.
“The CDP will be made available with an Assistant Engineer for the citizens to offer their comments. The entire exercise will come to an end by July 19,” he added.
The CDP has proposed to compensate those affect by the freeze in development with the transfer of development rights to the new business hub.
