Calangute/Panaji: The owners of Goa’s most happening nightlife spot, Club Titos, on Monday announced that they have sold the club citing harassment by the authorities.
“It is with sadness but with anger that we have sold our entire business in Goa. I personally have suffered the least as I was compensated adequately and even my future generations wont have to work,” Richardo Joseph D’Souza, who family owns the club, has said in a post on Facebook. He also added “I will also share some with our staff but in the long term they now have no jobs. Can I please ask our officials to employ them as I do not ever plan any more business in Goa.” Ricardo D’Souza said that he has been harassed by officials like Police, Planning and Development Authority, Coastal Regulation Zone, NGOs, Panchayat and Sarpanchas, Block Development Officers, Deputy Collectors and others.
Ricardo, However said that he is grateful to certain members of the government like Dr Pramod Sawant, the IAS officers, ex-staff, present staff, our neighbours, all my friends and family and the cmoon people of Goa who all contributed to this great brand called Titos.
But on Tuesday morning, when questioned Calangute MLA and Minister Michael Lobo about this news, Michael said that Ricardo hasn’t sold the venture yet, its under process. He added that he will request Ricardo D’Souza to rethink on his decision and not to sell the entire business. Ricardo should keep the extra high percentage of the stake with him, the small percentage he should lease out. Michael said he will be meeting Ricardo soon. He further urged Ricardo to given him the names of people or members from different authorities who has harassed him, the Government will take action.
