Panjim: Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) candidate for the Zilla Panchayat (ZP) elections from Aldona , Smita Shet, who is venturing into politics for the first time, says she was totally disgusted with what is happening on the political scenario and felt that there was a desperate need for a change.
She listed out various problems in her constituency, such as the lack of basic facilities, proper market, functioning streetlights etc.

AAP’s Morjim candidate, Adv Prasad Shahapurkar says the constituency has vast potential to be developed into an ideal tourist destination where the real Goa can be seen. He also spoke about addressing problems such development of the area, unemployment, water scarcity etc.
Manuel Cardoso who is the AAP’s Calangute ZP candidate asserts that good roads are not development and argues that what people need are their basic requirements to be provided to them without much trouble. He adds that it is time to change the bad reputation that Calangute has got and also criticised the pathetic condition of its water supply.
AAP’s Socorro ZP candidate Mario Cordeiro said Goa is the only State in India that hasn’t devolved any powers to the local bodies and that getting this done is his main aim. Mario added that as per the law the government has to devolve 29 functions to the local bodies.
He then listed out various problems which include issues with the Saligao garbage treatment plant, bad roads, water scarcity and quality as well as the erratic power system.
Cecille Rodrigues, who is contesting the ZP elections from Taleigao as an independent with support from AAP, said she is in the fray to ensure that the Monserrates do not get a free run in the area. “Agriculture is literally dead in the area with the fields rendered uncultivable due to seepage of sewage in it,” she said while pointing out that the village looks like a metropolis with huge buildings and housing complexes coming up.
“The creek is so clogged that it will take around Rs 10 crore to open it up,” she said while stating that water supply and electricity supply are perennial problems. “I have identified 18 unpainted speed breakers, 38 big potholes, 24 broken signages and 13 non functional street lights,” she added.
AAP’s Corlim candidate, Gorakhnath Kerkar and ex panch, said lack of basic facilities in the constituency like 24-hour electricity, water has led people of Corlim towards frustration towards the incumbent, while also criticising the high unemployment amongst the youth.
