Canacona: Canacona MLA and Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar has initiated temporary steps to provide additional water supply to meet the needs of Canacona taluka.
The 15 MLD Water Treatment Plant (WTP) at Shristhal was unable to provide sufficient treated water to the residents, despite vast availability of natural water resources.
Then two pumps at the Ordhofond pump house had developed faults, thereby severely affecting the water levels at the WTP. The company’s engineer had refused to attend to the faulty pumps due to pending bills which had run into lakhs of rupees.
When residents bitterly complained to Tawadkar about the acute water shortage, Tawadkar stepped up pressure and got the PWD (Water Supply) to release additional funds to repair the faulty pumps.
According to PWD sources, the water level has now stabilized at the Shristhal WTP and 8-9 MLD of water is provided for treatment on a daily basis.
At present, all six pumps at Chapoli are fully functional and two of the three pumps at the Ordhofond Pump House are pumping regular water supply to the Shristhal Treatment Plant.
“We are meeting with Chief Minister Manoharbai to resolve major issues of water supply faced by people of Canacona. At present, arrangements are made to provide potable water through water tankers,” said Tawadkar.
