PANJIM: The Congress party has decided to approach the Court to issue directions to police to register First Information Report in a complaint filed against Sri Ram Sene chief Pramod Muthalik for allegedly trying to disrupt communal harmony in Goa during his June 2013 visit.
In a complaint filed with Panjim police on May 29, Congress spokesperson, Durgadas Kamat has attached a Youtube link of the speech delivered by Muthalik in which he purportedly advised Hindus to keep swords in their homes to instill fear in minds of people belonging to religious minorities.
“It’s been more than eight days since the complaint was filed, but till date no FIR has been registered. Supreme Court has clearly said that in sensitive cases FIR should be registered and then investigated,” Kamat told media persons on Friday. He alleged that Goa police are purposely going soft on the issue.
Kamat said that he will now approach the Court to issue directions to police to register FIR in the a complaint against Muthalik.
The complaint is filed under Sections 153 (promoting enmity between different groups on the basis of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language), 158 (A) (being hired to take part in an unlawful assembly or riot) and 295-A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) of Indian Penal Code.
Congress has also sought action against Muthalik under Sections 66-A and 66-F of the Information Technology Act.
