Football Club Siolim edge past Assonora Utd

MARGAO: Football Club Siolim got the better of Assonora United 3-2 to cruise into the quarter-finals of the Mc Dowell's N0.1 Yaari Cup Inter-Village Football tournament, organized by Agassaim Youth Club, at Agassaim ground, on Friday. The teams were tied 1-1 at full time.

FC Siolim started on the front foot with their midfielders and strikers combining well.
After a series of attacks, FC Siolim got past the rival citadel and took the lead in the 15th minute through striker Ramnath Dabholkar, who slotted past the rival goalkeeper with a deft placement for the opener. 
Much desperate to pull things back after initial setback, Assonora United went all out in search of the equalizer.
They resotred parity just before the lemon break as Tushar Dessai’ headed in past the rival custodian off a Rajesh Salgaocar’s free-kick which eluded the FC Siolim defence line.
Crossing over, FC Siolim adopted an aggressive approach and made inroads inside the rival territory but their forwards misfired from close range.
At the other end, Assonora United striker Rajesh Salgaocar missed the easiest of chances to score in the 38th minute when he shot wide from hand-shaking distance.
FC Siolim went into attacking mode and fired sorties against the rival citadel. 
Rajesh Pompurkar well executed free kick eluded the rival goalkeeper to give FC Siolim a 2-1 cushion.
Spurred by the lead, FC Siolim swarmed all over the rival territory and in the 49th minute, Ramnath Dabolkar put the issue beyond doubt when he punished the rival goalkeeper with neat finish. 
With time running out, Prajot Arebekar reduced the margin for Assonora United.
