Imposter Claiming PMO Status Arrested Alongside Armed ‘Bodyguard’ in Mumbai

Security forces deployed ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled appearance in Mumbai successfully averted a major security breach on Tuesday. Police arrested a man posing as a high-ranking official from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), alongside an armed accomplice who claimed to be serving as his personal bodyguard.

Intervention and Identification The incident occurred at the event venue in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC). According to an official statement issued by the BKC Police Station, the primary suspect was identified as Rohan Parekh. Parekh arrived at the security perimeter asserting that he was an official attached to the PMO and requested access to the restricted event grounds.

During routine screening protocols established for VVIP visits, security personnel stationed at the entry points inspected Parekh’s credentials. Officers noticed several irregularities in his demeanor and documentation, prompting them to initiate a detailed verification process. A closer examination of the PMO identity card presented by Parekh raised immediate red flags, as officers determined the credential appeared to be fraudulent.

Apprehension and Ongoing Investigation Upon realizing the credentials were fake, security personnel immediately detained Parekh on the spot. Shortly thereafter, officers took a second man into custody who was accompanying Parekh. The second individual was found to be carrying a firearm and asserted that he was acting as Parekh’s private bodyguard.

Both individuals were taken into custody by the BKC Police for formal interrogation. Authorities are currently conducting a comprehensive background check on both suspects to ascertain their true identities, determine how they obtained the counterfeit PMO credentials, and investigate their underlying motives for attempting to enter the secure perimeter armed.
