PANJIM: Goa Forward MLA Jayesh Salgaocar on Tuesday took up the taxi operators issue with the Chief Minister saying their businesses and livelihood has been severely hit due to COVID-19 lockdown.

Speaking to the reporters after meeting Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant, Salgaocar said that the CM was sympathetic to the demands of the taxi operators.
“The Chief Minister has assured to look into the matter. He has lots of issues at hand to solve and he assured to do his best,” Salgaocar said.
The former minister said that the taxi owners have lost business at crucial time.
“March, April and half of May is business time before season comes to an end and suddenly we see lockdown. The taxi operators are facing lots of issues such as EMIs, insurance besides taking care of their families,” he said.
The taxi operators on Monday called upon the government to provide them relief as COVID-19 pandemic has hit their business hard. The North and South Goa Taxi Associations have sought from the government Rs 12,000 financial support to each operator besides excluding recovery of EMIs and insurance till re-commencement of the business.
In a joint letter to Chief Minister, the association members complained about the poor tourist season further marred by COVID-19 pandemic. The lockdown, enforced by the Central government to stop the spread of the infection, has also affected their movement.
