Mercurial playmaker Elvis Fernandes struck the only goal midway through the second half to give A&L Mining, Varca victory over New Era Boys, Benaulim in the finals of Something Unique soccer at Trinity SAG ground, Benaulim on Tuesday.
Benaulim were favourites and star player Brandon Fernandes was unlucky on two occasions with his long range efforts hitting the bar.
Varca keeper Mohamed Shaikh also excelled with his neat collections. New Era saw more of the ball but eventually it was Elvis’ clever long lob found the back of the nylons.
Chief guest, Valanka Alemao, guest of honour, Maria Rebello, S Goa ZP, Jaju Fernandes, Doma Fernandes, Andy and Ronny Diniz gave away the prizes. The winners pocketed Rs. 20,000 while the losers had to be content with Rs. 15,000.
