PANJIM: Paving the way for setting up the State’s first All India Institute of Ayurvedic, Yoga, and Naturopathy Research Centre with medical college, the State government on Wednesday handed over possession of land at Dhargal, Pernem to the AYUSH Ministry.
Union AYUSH Minister Shripad Naik said that the Institute with medical college will also house the Ayush Hospital. “The land was formally given in possion of the Ayush ministry by the Health Secretary, government of Goa,” Naik stated.
The minister said that a tender for the 600-bed project would be floated soon and the foundation stone would be laid in mid-October.
The 9,19,789 square metre plot was acquired in 2009 to build infrastructure for the upcoming National Games as well as for sports like cricket.
The decision to transfer a portion of land, measuring about 2,00,000 square metres, from the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs and Directorate of Health Services to the Union AYUSH ministry, free of cost, was taken at a Cabinet meeting.
A Memorandum of Understanding to set up the institute was signed in March last year by the State government and the Union AYUSH Ministry. As per the MoU, 50 per cent of the seats in the proposed institute will be reserved for people hailing from Goa. Group C and D staff would also be recruited from the local population, the MoU stated.
