PORVORIM: A 22-year-old woman died on the spot, while her brother suffered grievous injuries after a car knocked them down as they were waiting for a bus near Gandhi Chowk outside the Kadamba bus stand, Mapusa.
According to Mapusa Police, the incident occurred at 6 am, when the deceased Angana Naik and her brother Anuj Naik had parked their Activa scooter outside the Kadamba bus stand and were waiting for a bus that would take Angana to the Verna Industrial Estate, where she worked.
While they were waiting for the bus, an Innova car, which was speeding towards Panjim, knocked the siblings down. Both were shifted to GMC. However, Angana was declared dead on arrival, while her brother’s leg was fractured. The body was handed over to relatives. Mapusa Police arrested the driver G Malgaonker and registered offences against him under Sections 304 and 330 of IPC and Sections 130 A and B of the Motor Vehicles Act.
