There is a saying in English, “When wealth is lost, nothing is lost; when health is lost, something is lost, and when character, is lost everything is lost.” Last part of the sentence applies for the politicians in India. Today, many of us have enough money but are losing our health. Till 1990, Goa was a much better State. After the ‘90’s everything has changed rapidly. Real estate started flourishing, prices of land started increasing, cost of living became high. Due to liberalization and globalization many new business entries came in the market in the field of automobiles, hotel industry etc. Slowly lifestyle in Goa has changed. From Susegaad Goans we became more occupied Goans. Our simplicity changed into complexity.
Some years back Goans were known for their hospitality all over the world, whoever came to Goa, liked Goa’s nature and the friendly behavior of its people. Goans love to help others but everything has changed so fast and at now Goans have become greedy and don’t trust each others. Now most of us have money but at the same time we lost love for each other and our health.
Life is easy now with the development of technology. Earlier we used to eat in our homes. We did not have so many choices but whatever we ate was healthy and nutritious food. Few hotels were serving us food like samosas, batatawada, bhaji pao, chouris pao, pattice etc. Even now one can see in our remote villages people are much healthier than people from towns because they eat home made fresh food and they work hard.
Now we have choice of Chinese, Italian, American cuisine young generation eat lot of this junk food for instance noodles, pizzas, burgers etc. which is unhealthy.
Goans have money now but money can’t buy us everything specially love, respect for others and health. Let us hope Goa will regain its lost glory and good health.
