Clube De Salgaocar’s Selwyn Miranda receives the player-of-the-match award from Omkar Vaiganker

PANJIM: Clube De Salgaocar registered a dramatic 3-2 victory over Calangute Association Sports Club in a thrilling Goa Professional League match played at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Tuesday.
In another match, Vasco Sports Club and Dempo Sports Club played out a goalless draw at Raia panchayat ground.
Both sides created many opportunities but failed to convert chances. L Doungel and Prem Das were cautioned for Vasco Sports Club, while Beckham Dias and Shameek Caine went into the referee’s book for Dempo Sports Club.
Calangute Association took an early lead through Ronaldo Oliveira in the 17th minute, but Clube de Salgaocar responded before half-time as Isac Zomuanpuia levelled matters in the 39th minute. Clube de Salgaocar grew stronger after the break, with Selvyn Miranda making it 2-1 in the 71st minute. Joshua D’Silva sealed the points deep into stoppage time (90+4’), though Suraj Kumar’s late strike (90+6’) made for a nervy finish.
Selwyn’s goal earned him the player-of-the-match honours. Yellow cards were shown to Clube de Salgaocar’s Shridharnath Gawas and Tipanna Bhavikatti, while Calangute Association Joywin Carneiro and Mehbub Hublikar were booked.
The win lifts Clube de Salgaocar into mid-table contention after a mixed start to the season.
