MAPUSA: Two second half goals enabled FC Goa register a well deserved 2-0 win over new entrants Bidesh XI in the Goa Professional League match played at Duler Stadium, here, on Monday.
Bidesh XI coach Joao Rebello fielded a young side of seven new players in his starting XI, which frustrated the opponents who finally managed to score two goals on crossing ends.
At the other end, Young Gaurs coach Israel Gurung was dismayed that his regulars failed to score in the first half, though they kept their opponents pinned inside their own territory.
After this win, FC Goa climb to 16 points, while Bidesh XI stay on four points both after their 10th league match. A stinging 25-yard strike by Shaikh Ismail was brilliantly fisted for a corner by Bidesh XI custodian Cydon D’Souza.
Bidesh XI last line of defence marshalled by skipper Daniel Gomes and Myran Pereira along with goalkeeper Cydon proved unbeatable.
Young Gaurs continued to dominate on crossing ends, where finally in the 75th minute, a diagonal pass by right-winger Konsam Singh was superbly connected by substitute U-21 Bryson Pereira past the Bidesh XI defence and goalkeeper Cydon, 1-0.
After couple of missed chances, Young Gaurs doubled their lead in the 92nd minute, where man-of-the-match player Bryson Pereira slammed the ball past the Bidesh XI custodian to make it, 2-0.
Chapora Yuvak Sangh secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Guardian Angel SC, at the Nagoa ground. The match remained finely balanced for long spells, with Guardian Angel showing defensive resilience despite being reduced to 10- man after their goalkeeper was sent off for handling the ball outside the penalty area.
Chapora Yuvak Sangh steadily rose and struck from a set piece before finally finding the breakthrough in stoppage time, as Cyprian Rodrigues capitalised on late pressure to claim all three points.
