Rohit Sharma has arrived at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru to undergo fitness assessments ahead of India’s upcoming three-match ODI series against Afghanistan.
The veteran opener, who suffered a hamstring injury during IPL 2026, remains a part of India’s ODI squad but his participation is subject to receiving clearance from the CoE medical staff.
According to reports, Rohit checked into the facility on Monday and is expected to spend the next few days completing a series of fitness tests and practice sessions. The former India captain was initially expected to travel with the rest of the squad on June 9, but will now join the team only after proving his fitness.
As part of his rehabilitation programme, Rohit is scheduled to face a fresh set of bowlers in the nets while also taking part in batting sessions, including one under lights.
“Yes, Rohit is supposed to report to the CoE on June 8. He should be there for three days and has a few sessions lined up, including batting under lights on one ground. He will then join the Indian team in Dharamshala on June 11, two days ahead of the first ODI against Afghanistan on June 13,” a source had told Times of India last week.
The 39-year-old remains a key member of India’s ODI setup and has been among the team’s leading performers in the format since the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Despite enduring a modest IPL 2026 campaign, Rohit has repeatedly expressed his ambition to continue playing until the 2027 ODI World Cup.
India begin their ODI series against Afghanistan on June 13, leaving Rohit only a few days to secure medical clearance.
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli has already been ruled out of the series through injury and has been replaced by Yashasvi Jaiswal. Hardik Pandya, who was also recovering from an IPL injury, has successfully cleared fitness tests and is available for selection.
