Cong meets DGP, seeks withdrawal of FIR against its workers

PANJIM: Congress on Saturday urged the Director General of Police (DGP) to withdraw the ‘fabricated’ FIR filed against party workers and demanded action against BJP workers who have been booked under various sections including molestation.
Congress President Girish Chodankar and Leader of Opposition Chandrakant Kavlekar on Saturday afternoon submitted a joint memorandum to DGP Muktesh Chander demanding a proper investigation into the incident and that the false and fabricated FIR filed against the Congress workers be withdrawn.
“We demand strict action against all the accused persons against whom FIR is registered on the complaint of the President of Mahila Congress,” they said.
Congress said that the mob, gathered near its party headquarters, was instigated by the BJP State president and MP Vinay Tendulkar and its organisational secretary Satish Dhond. “Congress workers were attacked by the mob of 250-300 BJP workers,” they alleged.
Congress also said that the police authorities were silent spectators to the entire incident and no coercive measures were taken by the police authorities to disperse the mob.
