A shocking child sexual abuse case from Hubballi, Karnataka, has emerged in which a minor girl was allegedly raped, gave birth to a child that was then “sold” to another family, and is now pregnant again. An FIR has been registered against the man accused of repeatedly assaulting her, the girl’s parents, and two private doctors linked to the case.
Timeline of alleged abuse
According to the complaint filed by the Dharwad District Child Protection Unit, the minor was allegedly lured and sexually assaulted multiple times in 2025, leading to her first pregnancy. Police say the girl later delivered a baby, after which her parents are accused of concealing the pregnancy and failing to inform authorities.
After the child was born, the parents allegedly handed the newborn over to another family, with reports describing this as the baby being “sold”. Police are currently trying to verify the exact circumstances and the whereabouts of the child, amid conflicting claims that the baby is unwell and receiving treatment with relatives in Karwar.
Authorities say the minor is now pregnant again, and the same accused is suspected of sexually assaulting her a second time, leading to another pregnancy within a short span. Hubballi Police Commissioner N Shashi Kumar has stressed the need for a “very comprehensive investigation” because several aspects of the case remain unclear.
The girl’s parents face charges not only for allegedly selling the newborn but also for failing to report the first pregnancy and subsequent abuse to child protection or police authorities. Two private doctors are accused of treating the minor and handling the delivery without following mandated legal procedures and without reporting the case, which is required under child protection and POCSO laws.
Police Commissioner N Shashi Kumar said notices have been issued and an enquiry is underway to determine how the entire incident occurred and to trace the child. He noted that the family claims the newborn is ill and with relatives in Karwar for treatment, but police will independently verify this as part of the investigation.
