Rohit likely to be re-elected as Mayor of CCP, says Agshikar

PANJIM: “The date of CCP elections is not yet finalised. Rohit Monserrate is likely to be re-elected as the mayor of CCP again,” said Vasant Agshikar, deputy Mayor of Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP).  “I’m not in the race of becoming mayor,” he added.

The former mayor’s of CCP Uday Madkaikar and Surendra Furtado though said they won’t be contesting the elections this year. 

Furtado said, “This year the elections will be held just for the sake of formality. The panel will re-elect the existing face again.”

Present Mayor of CCP, Rohit Monserrate said, “Given a chance by the councillors, I’m ready to take the responsibility again.”

The term of Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP) ends on March 30.

The elections of Mayor and Deputy Mayor of CCP is held every year while the council election to elect CCP councillors is held after every five years. Newly re-elected representative of Panjim constituency, Babush Monserrate has a stronghold on 25 councillors in the 30 member’s of corporation.
