MARGAO: Churchill Brothers Sports Club will lock horns with Dempo Sports Club in the opening match of the Goa Sevens Premier League (GSPL) on April 30 at the training ground adjacent to the Fatorda Stadium, Margao.
The official draw for the league was held at the hands of GSPL President Benjamin Silva in the presence of officials and team managers, on Thursday.
Churchill Bros, Dempo SC, Vasco SC and SCC Cavelossim are potted in Group A while Group B features Salgaocar FC, Sporting Clube de Goa, Bardez FC and Guardian Angel SC.
The eight teams will battle it out for a period of two weeks wherein the top two teams from each group will qualify for the play-offs.
The final is slated to be held on May 14.
Speaking on the occasion, Benjamin Silva said, “The main aim to organise the Goa Sevens Premier League is to create more awareness about football. We have football culture in Goa and are having the Sevens League for the first time in this State. It has never happened. Today we are attempting to get the crowd back through the Seven-a-Side League,” said Benjamin Silva.
Benjamin highlighted the rules of the game with the team managers. He also spoke on the ground dimensions and the match duration. The sample of the official ball was displayed to the media.
The GSPL is organised by Ambelim Sports Club and Goa Sevens Sports and Cultural Association.
