Valpoi: People visiting the Valpoi Municipal council administrative and commercial building have been facing hardships as the lift in the complex is out of order.
The new two-storeyed administrative building has 25 shops with other facilities like library, gymnasium and a multiplex, which will be soon thrown open to public as the project is in its final phase.
A woman, who runs a ceramic outlet on the first floor of the complex said, “I have to go to my shop along with my clients a number of times and I have to climb the stairs as the lift is not functioning for the last few days. I am suffering from pain in my joints.”
An elderly man Anant Naik from Valpoi said it becomes difficult to go to offices on the first floor if the lift is not working “once multiplex is opened, how will a physically disabled person be expected to visit the multiplex if the lift is not working,” questioned the resident.
Another woman Vasanti Harwalkar said the fixtures in the wash room are missing. Besides the non-functioning of the lift, the health faucet and taps in the washroom are also missing. I already informed about it to the VMC officials, but nothing has been done. Many businessmen said that they are facing problem as the lift is not functioning and the rent charged is high and the building lacks facilities. We will be meeting our MLA to discuss the issue shortly.
The businessmen have also demanded deploying security at night as it causes inconvenience for the tenants. When contacted, VMC Chairperson Parvin Shaikh said she would direct the maintenance team to fix the problem during this week and assured to inspect the building before the team arrives at the site.
